New Xbox Tomorrow

Grabbing an Xbox Slim tomorrow. Why? I don’t really know but I want one anyway. The extra HDD and all that is appealing but. I’ll have to buy a TV to put in my bedroom but I think…32 – 40″ or something I guess. So if anyone has one for cheap let me know!

Anyway finished the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 campaign last night and as with Modern Warfare one I’ll say it was an ok but not especially good experience. The games just that much better when it is doing something different…be it stealth missions, vehicles or even the airport mission. When they go back to being a straight out shooter the game is as boring as shit. I’m sorry but I’ve described the series as being like playing Whack-A-Mole and I stand by it. Huge groups of enemies constantly rushing you just isn’t fun.

With that out of the way I’m moving onto Red Dead Redemption. Seems very good so far.

Aliens Vs Predator

Finished the campaign last night. Overall it’s an ok game but a bit forgettable too. The campaigns for the most part were rather dull regardless of what character you picked and your options always felt sort of limited, perhaps because of the limited arsenal each one had (Alien especially). That and the interlocking story, while interesting, meant that each successive campaign felt more predictable and there was a distinct lack of memorable set pieces.

I guess one of the issues is that in the game there is never more than about two different enemies you will come up against so combat really becomes pretty dull pretty quick. The other one is there is no sense of a team. Both Marines and Aliens are only effective hunters when in a pack (at least when the opposition is heavily armed). The game instead makes you solo most of it for each species and both the human and Alien feel like they have increased health to compensate for the lack of AI assistance.

Still, as a huge fan of Aliens it held my interest just long enough. I wouldn’t replay it but. Wait until it’s cheap.

Aliens vs Predator

Games Galore

Boy I have a nice long back catalog of games to play currently. Currently I’m playing Lost Planet 2 and Aliens Vs Predator on the PC. Both are games that excel at being decent without being spectacular (so far) but I’ll stick with them. Well, Lost Planet does have some rather cool boss fights if nothing else. I still think it needs to be played multi player, not single player as I am doing.

Alien Vs Predator

Might I add that the Aliens are one of the most annoying villains in the history of FPS to fight. They move like they have just had half a dozen cups of coffee and the game is very stingy with ammo which is a nasty combination already but when you add in the dark levels and it’s very hard to fight these buggers while leaving enough ammo for the possibility of another later attack. Certainly a tense game.

Damn Aliens

Then there is Red Dead Redemption which by all accounts is fantastic fun so perhaps that is next on my list. That’s to go with Alan Wake which I also got last week. For months I’ve had copies of both Dragons Age and Mass Effect 2 sitting on my desk. In particular Dragon Age is a game I waited about six years for (basically since mid way into first year uni) and once it arrived I never sat down and actually played it. At least it will have a fair bit more DLC available once I do go to play it.

ATM I’m keen to replay all the Zelda titles from Ocarina of Time onwards and for once actually finish Majora’s Mask as part of that. Don’t know whether to get a Game Cube version or just a virtual console release of it but. We’ll see. I can’t do that until I get my memory card for the Game Cube from my parents. Lastly there is the Game Boy titles in the series I’d also like to try for the first time. Might I make the bold suggestion that Twilight Princess is perhaps the best Zelda game ever too and should sit on the top of any top 10 list…well besides Baldur’s Gate 2 which IMHO is the greatest game ever.

Twilight Princess

All up thats a scary amount of games and I have Fable 3 and Star Craft 2 coming some point later on, not to mention Mario Galaxy 2 which by all accounts is brilliant also.

Bit Early There

And as is to be expected we missed the ship date. Still will meet the original deadline but, we’re that close.

On another note I’ll update my media library sometime soon with an updated games list. That things months behind and I have a fair few to add. I might add the last figurine or two I placed on order now also.

edit: Ouch, the games section is years old…2006 or so. I’ll use the same script as the figures I think and make it all a bit nicer.
