It’s now Thursday. Last Sunday Brisbane got hit with what was described as the largest storm in 25 years for the City. Infact the Courier mail mentioned that the immediate area I live in was hit with what they coined a mini tornado. This area was also the worst hit. Pretty intense stuff for a suburb that usually doesn’t cop it too bad at all in storms.
Anyway power was out in my area until yesterday afternoon (Wed) and I couldn’t make a connection to a mobile network all monday either due to physical damage or network congestion. Since then military and the like have been through doing clean up and IMHO doing a very good job.
Anyway the storm snuck up pretty fast and was gone in ten to fifteen minutes. Fortunatly I had just got home from the cinemas as had we got the next bus myself and Michael would have probably been aty the top of Waterworks Rd on a bus or worse, half way in our walk home. Woulda had to run into someones garage or house I guess. Fortunatly we had been home for 15 to 20 minutes by the time the storm hit.
Fortunately no one was hurt and given most of the trees in my street are on the opposite side of the road no ones houses were seriously damaged despite pretty much three quarters of the trees in the park side being ripped apart. Some people were stuck but for a day since both ends of our street were blocked in, affecting maybe 20 – 40 households.
Anyway I’ve included a bunch of images taken on the night and the following days. The cameras used aren’t the best at night pics or weren’t collaburated right so alot are fairly blurry. They do a decent job at showing damage to the street.
Just have a look here. It’s a good look at some mayjor events. Some are rather shocking but theres also some famous light hearted ones.
Anyway the holidays have come and gone rather suddenly as I am sure most people will agree. Second semester for me always feels much less pleasant than the first, usually because your just so tired. Never the less life goes on and I won’t make too much of a complaint about how the holidays felt so short because I’m sure everyone will be hearing that from Troy anyway (Tonight I think was the third or 4th time).
Anyway I’ll have to update the uni section later on down the track but for the benefir of others heres a very quick uni timetable rundown.

In other news I have a variety of concerts lined up including Marilyn Manson, Silverchair + Powderfinger (Powder chair/Silver Finger) and My Chemical Romance. Fun times indeed and for two of the three I’ll even have company. How pleasant.
And in other news almost as monumental as the arrival of Vista, I am now moving off Bigpond and getting onto iiNet in order to get ADSL2+. Overall the plan costs $10 more but offers me 60GB download a month as opposed to 12GB and at an expected 10x the speed although theres no real way to know what I will achieve speed wise. I’m awaiting confirmation tomorrow morning although I did get one email saying a port on The Gap exchange has been reserved for me although I would like some more concrete email notification to address other account related issues. If all goes well I may even go to Umart on the way home and purchase an ADSL2+ Gateway. I had played with the idea of spending $100 more to get a Draft N version but ultimately I don’t think I need it just yet for the tasks I will be doing.
Other thing’s I’m considering buying soon are the Ultimate Ears Earbuds which are 15% off currently. That said I dont like the fact the clear model costs $20US more than the other two so either I can go the others, pay more, or hope they go on sale again. I have a few days until I have to make any real decision regarding that.
Ohh and lastly I need to get back to applying for work and will be going to a careers expo Thursday to cover that. Along with that I need to submit my tax which I believe I have completed as well as a possible Youth Allowance form which I believe I am able to claim.
